Boston, MA – February 9, 2026 During the Inaugural 2026 General Assembly of the Global Alliance for Intelligent Oncology (GAFIO), Professor Wenli Cai, Executive Director of GAFIO and Executive Editor-in-Chief of the journal Intelligent Oncology, delivered a comprehensive presentation detailing the Alliance’s organizational structure, governance framework, and strategic roadmap for global expansion.
Speaking to an international audience of researchers, clinicians, AI scientists, and institutional partners, Professor Cai emphasized that GAFIO has transitioned from its foundational planning phase into a new stage of execution and global engagement.
Establishing a Transparent and Inclusive Governance Architecture
Professor Cai introduced GAFIO’s governance structure, led by the Board of Directors under the presidency of Professor Bo Xu. The Board provides strategic oversight and long-term direction. The Executive Committee, chaired by Professor Cai, is responsible for operational leadership and implementation of strategic initiatives.
Supporting this structure are the Secretariat and Treasurer, along with core functional committees dedicated to international affairs, nominations, publication and fundraising — ensuring coordinated, accountable, and sustainable development.
The Academy of Intelligent Oncology: Academic Core of the Alliance
Central to GAFIO’s mission is the Academy of Intelligent Oncology, described by Professor Cai as the Alliance engine. The Academy sets research priorities, guides education initiatives, and supports interdisciplinary innovation.
Its Scientific Committees will serve as quality gatekeepers, reviewing scientific rigor, assessing translational potential, and ensuring ethical compliance. A global call for applications to join these committees has officially been launched.
Operational Backbone: Secretariat and Treasury
Professor Cai highlighted that the essential role of the Secretariat and the Treasury in maintaining organizational integrity. The Secretariat oversees the administrative coordination, records management, and communication, while the Treasurer ensures financial transparency through responsible budgeting, audit compliance, and risk management.
Committees Supporting Global Expansion
Several committees will drive GAFIO’s international growth:
· The International Affairs Committee (chair to be nominated) will cultivate global partnerships and support regional chapters.
· The Nominating Committee, chaired by Professor Cai, will ensure leadership continuity, diversity, and transparency.
· The Publication Committee, chaired by Helen Zeng, will uphold academic excellence across white papers, special journal issues, and conference proceedings.
· The Fundraising Committee, led by Syed Rahmanuddin, will develop diversified and ethical funding strategies to sustain long-term development.

Declaring that“GAFIO now enters its execution and expansion phase,” Professor Cai outlined the Alliance’s immediate priorities: activating Scientific Committees and Regional Chapters, launching flagship research and education programs, strengthening cross-sector partnerships, and building a trusted, open, and sustainable global platform grounded in shared scientific standards.
